Pet Peeve...

I don't care that we both have caller ID - this is a place of business and have some frakn' etiquette and simply start with, "Hi this is Jane." I mean geez, where are your manners? There's one caller in particular that I really just want to give the sharp side of my tongue to - but how would I do that and not create another enemy in that men-driven department where all the women despise others with breasts?

Well, you wouldn't make an enemy of me! My trick is to ask "who is calling?" when they ask if I am there. It confuses them and not-so-gently reminds them that proper phone etiquette is to introduce yourself first and then ask for the other person.

If it is a salesman calling on my personal phone, I remind them of the proper etiquette and then say "I never deal with companies that don't train their people properly" and hang up. I may be a jerk, but it sure gets the message across!

Yes...and...People calling and after I say "Hello?," they say, "Who is this?"

Why did you call if you didn't want to speak with me? I would understand if they had said, "This is John. To whom am I speaking?"

Be decent, for heaven's sake. I'm bitchy about people "interrupting my day" in that way. I don't have Caller ID but that wouldn't matter.
Seriously, if your job requires you to be on the phone all day then you'd think that training would start first and foremost with phone manners :(
I feel like it's going to get even worse with our new phone system because EVERYONE will have caller ID - not just select phones (which is how our current system is).

"Interrupting my day" is right, the person who called who made me want to post this literally said something to the effect of: "This is what's wrong, if I do this will it fix it?" I said yes and then they hung up without even saying goodbye or thank you. So. Rude.
[this is good]
I've actually said to people, "You called me. Who are you?"

Not sure if uppity tones "schools" them but I hate to admit it made me feel better at the time. ::snap!::
You need to have a air horn by your phone just in case someone gets out of line :p

Yep. It is bad enough when they jerk you out of a creative fog (which happened six times today! gah!). Adding rudeness to it is just mean. Now where can I get an air horn...
