Technology QotW: Smile! You're on the Internet!
It's been a year since the launch of Justin.TV -- a site featuring "lifecasters" -- people who broadcast their lives on the internet via live video 24/7. What's your take on the "lifecasting" phenomenon? Do you find it engaging to tune into other people's lives on the web?
No, no I do not - at least not in this sense. I enjoy reading blogs about peoples lives, but I think the difference is that there is thought and preparation put into a blog posting that strapping a camera to your head cannot compete with. Furthermore, there are very few interesting people in this world and if we start giving the uninteresting ones the idea that video taping everything they do is cool - our society will crumble and fall quickly and with a lot of noise.
Oh, your iPhone first's bill came in a box because you text messaged so much? How very uninteresting. What's that? You met a cool bum on the subway? Good thing he doesn't smell as bad as he looks through the camera! Your coffee shop writes, "Justin.TV rocks!" on your cup? How quaint.
Ugh.
