Petco (or other big petstores) usually has puppy obedience training classes and they're often in the evenings or weekends. I know it's a pain but you'll all be happier for it in the end. :D
I wish there were more hours in the day too!
Oh, I know. We're actually looking into getting this "zone" system because we want to leave her out around the house during the day but away from the kitchen, catbox & entertainment center (she started chewing on one of Paul's console controllers and I thought he'd found the seventh circle of hell with all the fuss he made). We're going to wait until we get back from Scotland though.
I find I can never get enough done!
Zone system? I don't think I've heard of it...is it kind of like those invisible fences people can get for their yards?
Well, not really. The concept is that the animal wears a collar and you have these disks that create a 2ft-12ft zone around the disks and if the animal enters that 2 or 12 feet - they've entered the zone. There aren't any wires and its made more to keep them out of areas rather than in areas.

I'm a little nervous to try it out because at first it emits a sound to warn the animal, and then it sends a slight electrical shock. I'm not sure, because I haven't done a lot of research, but I think the shock becomes stronger if the animal doesn't cooperate. I told Paul that if we do this, we're going to try it out ourselves before putting it on Ripley so we can see how harsh it is.

There was another method we were considering, but it's just too expensive. Its basically the same concept, except instead of a sound or a shock - it sprays a bit of water in the animal's face (the spray is on the collar). However, on top of how expensive it was - I also feel that it wont get Ripley's attention or that she'll realize that it's the collar and chew it off (the spray makes the collar really noticeable and bulky unlike the first option).

Ripley is smart - I feel that if we use this method she'll get the idea really quick. I'm just anxious to get her out of having to be confined while we're at work and at night.
That's a pretty neat idea! If she's smart, after that first shock, she'll learn to stay away from an area when she just hears the noise. You're such good puppy parents to want to test it out though. :D
We're trying :) I see it like training to carry a stun gun as a cop - they make everyone get stunned first so that you know exactly what your "victim" is going through and don't abuse it.
