Twilight, the Movie.
Well, I saw the Twilight movie at a midnight premiere on Thursday night. I didn't really have any expectations for the movie, in fact I'd been trying to stay away from all the fan sites that were giving daily updates because it was beginning to feel like a TV movie when you see all the magic taken away. The first official previews (I'm not taking about the teasers, I hate teasers) looked promising so I'd been excited to see it for more than just the fun I'd have with my friends.
PROS:
- The book had a lot of internal monologue and they translated it well into a just the right amount of narrative voice-over.
- The location was just as I imagined it, if not better.
- I thought that the actors for Carlisle & Esme were perfect.
- The actions that were described by the internal monologue in the book was translated too literally in the movie. Seeing humans crouching and growling at each other was nothing but hilarious to me - unlike in the book where an action like that may have been tense or at least less funny.
- The movie was too long, at two hours I was bored with all the silent shots and found myself yawning and looking at my watch.
- Most of the acting was over-acting.
In short, the movie just barely met my low expectations - so if you have any good or high expectations for the movie you'll probably be disappointed. I've heard a lot of reviews of the movie, and I seriously think that those people are just being too generous - or are die hard fans in denial of the fact that they've been salivating and obsessing over a mediocre result for the last year or more. We have to think realistically though, I mean the director has been responsible for nothing spectacular - which is evident by the fact that she filmed it entirely too literally. The screenwriter really only has a long string of TV shows under her belt, which is obvious by the fact that though they translated the internal monologue successfully into voice-over (it could have been a lot more and a lot worse) the movie's dialogue was bloated with very little movement which was just a waste of time.
Its almost as if seeing this movie has exaggerated everything I hated about the books (I did enjoy the books - even if I'm not an obsessive fan. I've read a lot worse and they kept me entertained which is the most important thing to me when reading) and took away everything I liked.
