We got a Wii! Paul's portion of the stimulus package was spent quickly & happily :) He picked up Smash Brothers Brawl and I got Super Mario Paper! We've set it all up and tried bowling & tennis already.
So! If you've got a Wii, send me your user info so I can friend you - or whatever its called :P
As an update to this post, we got our check! I didn't even notice it because I forgot I had them deposit our refunds (and ergo our stimulus package) into our savings which I hardly ever pay attention to - so I had to log into our account. But it's there! This weekend we're supposed to go see Paul's parents - so mattress shopping will have to wait until next weekend. I still haven't decided what I want to do with some of the other money, but it's looking like fixing up my appearance because I really feel ugly lately. Some new clothes, new hair cut and some self-esteem boosters will do me some good :) My sister recently had her hair cut short and dyed a dark brown - I'm jealous. She looks so put-together and sleek now!
]]>On a side note, while we were in Scotland we watched one of their lottery shows. I was impressed by how they were very vocal on which charities were getting a portion of the money. I remember my mom telling me that when the lottery was set up here, it was to help schools and whatnot. It might be doing that still, but I wouldn't know because they never say anything about it.
Of course... I also don't watch our lottery shows so maybe that's the core of my lack of information

...But, Jane just got her Stimulus Package check from the government this week. According to the list I posted here a few months again - she wasn't supposed to get hers until the end of August! I really hope we get ours soon, Paul & I have decided to buy a new mattress with our check - as the one we're sleeping on was his from when he still lived with his family.
That's only going to be half of our check though, and I don't know what we'll do with the other. I'm tempted to revamp my wardrobe as I feel frumpy and completely unattractive lately - what I wouldn't give for a tailor! I know Paul wants to buy a Wii - since we don't have enough money (not even with out entire check) to get him a new computer like he wanted.
If we were responsible, we'd put it towards our credit card debt. However, our debt is not out of control anymore and the check is meant to be spent - not saved. They keep talking on the news about how this whole scheme will only work if people spend it and not just save it or pay bills. Its so difficult though to think of spending money on potentially frivolous things when you have bills to pay and a family to take care of.

I'm not a big shoe person, but this QotD reminds me that I really need to clean out my closet. There is a lot of stuff in there that I don't wear anymore - and a lot of stuff that's not right for the changing weather so I really need to cut back and store. Maybe I'll work on that this weekend?
]]>Well, I didn't take a nap last night before my sister came over - mainly because I was working on getting the pictures from the Scotland trip off of my laptop and onto Flickr. You can see them now - however I warn that I haven't "edited" them so there are a lot of apparent repeats due to exposure tests.
America's Next Top Model was good! I was so glad that Whitney - the plus size model in the competition - has not only survived again, but she also wasn't in the bottom two as I suspected she would be. With the remaining three chosen - and one of them being a plus size model - I really wonder what kind of runway show they're going to do. It may not even matter of course, if Whitney is cut before, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If anything, I just hope that this gives the next plus size contestant more confidence that you can make it far in the competition if you just keep trying. Whitney said it best in her interview reel - the last plus size contestants all gave up eventually and it had very little to do with their ability to be a model. I'll be happy if Anya wins though, because I'm not a big fan of Fatima. Its surprising that I say that now because when I first began watching I hated Anya because of her accent - I fear that's going to hold her back when they do their Cover Girl commercials next week.
Tonight I've made no plans and I'm just going to relax! I'm going to go home, get some stuff together for my lunch tomorrow because I'm determined to try and bring a Bento box, take a quick bath as I'm hairy like a beast, and then hit the hay early...

I'm so tired. I went to bed at 11pm last night in the hopes that I would sleep until my alarm and get back into the groove of things. Well, I slept until my alarm but I'm so tired right now! My Tigger mug, usually full of good-for-you tea is now full of over sugared & creamed coffee as I hate coffee and so need to disguise the taste of it.
Eww.
I think I'm going to try and take a nap this afternoon before my sister comes over to watch the second to the last episode of America's Next Top Model. But, I'm conflicted because I really want to try and read more of The Host, or try and get something together for my lunch tomorrow as I really want to try to make a Bento box, or clean a bit as the house has seemed cluttered ever since we've gotten back, or work on getting the new training systems we bought for Ripley set up (though I'll likely just wait until this weekend for that). So many choices...
I'm tired and it's only 12:30!
I don't think I've mentioned much on here about this, but I'm a fan of the Twilight series of books. The author of the Twilight series, Stephanie Meyers, has just released her first book written and geared towards adults while the Twilight series was geared more towards young-adults even though it ended up being enjoyed by a much wider audience. The book, entitled The Host, was released yesterday - and as part of a promotion the author is doing a book tour. My sister got me and a bunch of us others tickets to the book signing and yesterday she picked up our books and tickets to the May 23rd event.
Last night my sister had a "release party" and made gift bags to hand out with the books - it was so much fun! We made bookmarks for using when reading The Host and we're going to get together again soon to make t-shirts to wear to the book signing later this month. I'm so excited! I love doing fan stuff, makes me feel less like a minority in my interests :)
I went home last night early because I'm still getting use to the time change again - though I've nearly tackled it - and I wasn't able to even crack the book open :( I'm hoping that I'll have some time today while at work, but likely not. What sucks is that while I used to take my lunch during the majority of the staff's lunch hour and so therefore have a bit of peace, quiet and privacy while at my desk - I've been forced to change my lunch hour to 11am-12pm in order to cover the lunch hour. My only hope now to get an uninterrupted lunch is to go out to my car!
Has any other neighbors, other than Tracy who's been keeping me in the loop so far as the Twilight movie goes, read the Twilight series or is interested in Stephanie Meyers new book The Host?
I went to bed at 8:30pm last night, and that was me trying to keep my eyes open. Luckily, when I woke up at 4:30am this morning, I felt refreshed and counted eight hours of sleep so I just stayed up and used the extra hour to take my time getting ready and also getting to work early in order to catch up before the calls started to pour in.
Work, not surprisingly, held up fine without me. However, there was a bit of drama in the form of a co-worker of mine getting fired on the spot! No one knows all the details, but apparently it had something to do with "theft". All the interesting stuff happens when I'm gone. I do feel welcomed back though, and that's very nice :) Oh! And while I was gone Jane got a temp job at my work! So starting next Tuesday she'll be here for at least six months! I'm hoping that having a friend here will help me with this "changing" I have to do.
Yesterday Paul & I went on the hunt for this fresh produce store I'd heard about and ended up getting lost on the way there and on the way back. The good news is that the store is exactly what I was looking for! The bad news is that it's not that close and so we can't go there often enough to take advantage of it. Most of the food is organic and doesn't have preservatives - so its only good for a day or two. Plus, they don't have a lot of stuff we usually get - so we'd have to visit two stores. I'm tempted though, very tempted. The produce was just so fresh and the best price - I was shocked and so happy. The other good news? They're apparently opening a store across the street from us in 2009! We'll see how it all pans out.
Yesterday we also went and saw Iron Man, which I really enjoyed! I've never read the comic, so I can't say anything in relation - but the movie was great. I was worried that the whole thing would be CGI, but it was tastefully done. I'm hoping that the sequel will be released soon. If you haven't seen it, if you do see it - stay until after the credits. Paul also says that Tony Stark is supposed to be having a cameo in the new The Hulk flick staring Edward Norton - so that'll be interesting.
