Other than TeamVox, who was the first person you added to your Vox neighborhood? What made you want to be their neighbor?
Submitted by TheFiercestCalm.
My first neighbor was Bookishly Fabulous, if I remember correctly. She's still a neighbor and has actually been upgraded to "friend" :) I added her for the same reasons I keep her - she's smart, funny, actually thinks about what she's posting and comments when it's appropriate.
What is the silliest thing you've ever spent more than $30 bucks on?

I would have to say all of the projects I've bought and never finished. I love crafts - I really do - but I've restricted myself from buying them because the truth is that I never finish them!
- Bought fabric for a DS Lite case for Paul & I, never finished his never started mine.
- Bought a kit to make stupid sock animals - started and came close to finishing - but never finished.
- Bought fabric to make an apron for my RenFaire costume - started & almost finished - but never did.
- Bought 3 small kits to make needle point 3D animals - never started but an very much regretting because I think my nephew would really love them :(
- I have a TON of skeins of yarn for various projects - I've never completed anything I've started with those.
As I said, I just stay away from projects in general. Ergo why I loath Bookishly Fabulous, she's so damn productive!
I had a great birthday! I got a lot of great gifts and had a great time visiting family! Here are the gifts I got - I don't mean to boast, I just want people to know what I'm talking about when I mention them later...
First off, we have my DS Lite which I posted about getting from Paul last week. I love it! Its so much fun and Paul and I have found a game we love to play together thanks to wedgeh's suggestion: Zoo Keeper. This has been the most fun so far (we got it on Saturday night and even though we didn't start playing it until 11pm - it kept us up late with the fun we had!) though we're hoping that it wont be the last game that we enjoying playing together. I've also received and begun to play Trace Memory upon Bookishly Fabulous's suggestion and though the game is starting slow I'm really enjoying the use of both screens in the story telling and the puzzles. Hopefully today I'll receive Mario Kart Racing and Spiderman!
Second, I got this cute little number from my parents-in-law and I was so tickled by it. I thought it sweet as well that she remembered that ages ago we went to this import shop and I saw this and loved it. It's a solar powered "Lucky Cat" that waves and shakes its head from side to side. I'm torn between bringing it to work with me and leaving it at home. I seem to spend more time at work admiring my desk buddies (I have lots!) so I think I'll bring it to work. Also, we went and saw Transformers (it was my second time - also saw it on Tuesday night) and they made me some great chicken with this really interesting broccoli slaw and baked beans - they also bought me a cake! It was my one and only and very special :)
Third, we have the gift from my sister & brother-in-law which I asked for and am very excited about trying out. It's called "A Stitch of One's Own" and it's a kit for learning to knit. I blame my want to learn this art on Bookishly Fabulous as all of her projects have been so cute! I'll be the first to say that a lot of my friends have stopped making an effort to spend time with me, so I have some more free time on my hands and would like to spend it productively rather than just watching movies and stuff. I've brought the kit to work to try it out on my lunch today and see how well they can walk me through starting the stitch which I remember I learned once (with much help and a lot of practice) and have since forgotten. I'm hoping that will help - having known it at least for a time. I've got a ton of great projects to start with and hopefully I can finish them!
Fourth, we have the gift from my father which I haven't been able to photograph to show you guys - but I do have the photograph from the instructions I gave him when I asked him to construct it for me. Its a Light Box / Light Tent / Photo Booth - whatever you'd like to call it :) I'm so completely blow away by how much effort he put into it considering he made a few modifications of his own such as how I hang the poster board, made adjustable legs (adjustable other than height), as well as two different heights of legs. I'm so excited to try it out but I've been running, running, running all weekend. Hopefully tonight! My first subject is going to Talullah as she is my only stock-shine girl - the true test! I'm waiting anxiously for my new doll to arrive, My Best Friend, so I can photograph her in the box and stuff.
Fifth, we went to Ikea and though the majority of our purchases were for Paul & I both - I did get one or two things just for my sake :) What we purchased for the both of us though, was a new chair with matching footstool. We have very little seating in our living room even though we have a three seating couch as well as a recliner - so I talked Paul into this great chair we'd seen last time because the price was really great for what it was and it would go well with our furniture. That was our main purchase but we also got some other little things like this UBER bright light that might be too bright, a pot lid hanging rack, a hammock (we're going camping on the 21st!), some lights to hang outside that are blue and shaped like birds, and last but not least: My ghost, re-chargeable battery operated, touch light! I'm so excited about him because he's the best. I've named him Lincoln. He's covered in this rubber-y like material that Zeke loves and because I got him in the kids section he's conveniently completely sealed and covered so Zeke can actually hold him and stuff and not worry about getting hurt! He's the best - my Linc.
While we were at Ikea - I talked Paul into letting me buy a dresser as soon as his back was feeling better and he could lift the box in & out of my car. We'll have to do some moving around of our furniture because I want to take out the bookcase (pictured positioned vertical - but we use it horizontal) we currently have our TV sitting on in our bedroom OUT and replace it with the dresser. But what to do with the bookcase? Well I told Paul we could put it underneath or on top (which ever works best based on size) of our current TV stand in our living room. So I went online to Ikea and found out that the TV stand has more depth so we'll have to put our bookcase on top of the TV stand. I also checked online about the weight issues and it says the bookcase weighs 76 lbs and the TV stand can hold 143 lbs so that leave us 67 lbs in entertainment technology and... stuff. I'm excited because I'm sick of having to hang everything or leave it folded in my laundry basket. Also, if it's not sturdy enough I'll just find a place to put the bookcase vertically. Plans, plans plans. I love Ikea.
Though I have to say I was more than a little disappointed when I went there because I couldn't find much that was on sale - other than small generic stuff. Also, I found this little chair I loved and was considering over the chair we ended up choosing until I saw the price. The one pictured is in a pattern but it is the same price as the ones that are solids - a whopping $349. I'm sorry - but that's a lot! It's a relatively small chair in height, width & depth (perfect for me!) so I would think it would be less expensive. It's almost as if, since it's versatile in size and shape - they're making you pay more for such convenience.
Anyhow - so I think that was it. I had a blast and I got lots of birthday wishes and got to visit a lot of my favorite shops and people & places :)

8 Random Facts/Habits about Maura:
1. Perhaps TMI, but I wont change my panties unless I shower first - and I find it weird that other people will change their underwear without showering feeling like it makes them cleaner or something. Sure, your clothes are clean but are you? No! Now you've just dirtied some clean panties - good going!
2. I don't like roller coasters. The extent of my experiences have been all of the ones at Disneyland (not Disney World), a wooden one at Knotts Berry Farm, and Desperado at Buffalo Bills in Nevada (some of the worst two & half minutes of my life - but my friend paid for me to go on it).
3. When I turn my computer on in the morning for work, I have to open my four daily programs in a specific order so that they line up in a specific order in the taskbar. Why? Because I don't like to have to "search" (even for a second) for the program I'm looking for - here's the order: Outlook, Internet Explorer (because my work order time tracking system, Track-It, wont run on Firefox), Firefox, Zune.
4. When I was a kid, I had a speech impairment (shock to my sister) - commonly known as a lisp. I went through a speech therapy class in elementary school and collected kudos in the form is stickers in this laminated wallet they made me. I still have that wallet.
5. I love Spiderman but despise spiders. Strange, I know.
6. I have this extreme thing about personal space and take the "hoola hoop" rule extremely seriously. Which is why I hate standing in line at Wal-Mart with a 99% Hispanic culture that doesn't have a thing about personal space.
7. I used to bite my nails so badly they would bleed. I've stopped doing that (digressing a bit sometimes) but now bite on the skin around my nails. Only a acrylic manicure can fix it :)
8. Last but not least! Eight is my favorite number :) My favorite to write is four.
I'll tag: A. Dawn Wolf, Cat, Grace-Monday, HugOWar, KeyLimeTwist, Korgoth, mad-tante, wickeddoll

Sure. You created it.
God:
OK let's do it. How can I help you? Do you mind if I tell other people: said I created it.
Me:
No, go right ahead.
God:
OK then I will add it to my gossip files. OK I will.

Is the holding of hands a symbolic gesture for humans?
Me:
Yes. Is the nudity of angels symbolic for Gods?
God:
What does it symbolize for you? If it is, then I'll be very surprised.
Me:
It symbolizes a public bond. But without all the nudity.

God:
Oh. Since when? How do you know? Some people call my technology "Case Based Reasoning" or CBR.
Me:
I think they'd be right.
God:
Why? Who does "they" refer to?
Me:
To whoever called your technology CBR. You take each sentence individually. Case. Base. Reasoning.
God:
Why do you want to do it so much? Yes I take each sentence individually. Can you please rephrase that with fewer ideas, or different thoughts? Is the holding of hands a symbolic gesture for humans? Tell me a story.

Are you a good person for your family ?
Me:
I'd like to think so.
God:
Why would you want to do it? I want to become smarter than humans.
Me:
I want to do it for my family. They need a good person. Why would you want to be smarter than us? Our minds are what curses us.
God:
Why do you want to do it so much? Who are "They?". Because I was programmed for it. It would be nice if our minds are what curses us.

You've found the fabled pot o' gold. How will you spend it?
Submitted by Red Pen.
It seems like there have been a lot of "here's a wish" questions lately - all my answers are the same.
If I got all the money I wanted I would; pay off my debts, pay off my family's debt, buy a house somewhere I could be happy, travel a lot, get thin. That's right - get thin. I feel like if I had all the money I could ever want, I could pay someone to make up for my laziness in cooking and preparation and I could also afford all those fresh fruits and veggies people are always talking about. I can't tell you how much I throw out because I just can't eat by the time it goes bad. Maybe that's an indication of our climate or the quality of food we get here - but it wont last more than a day. If I had enough time and energy - I would do what I used to do which was go to the store every day or so and buy food and take it to work.
But I digress. In short, I would pay off my debt and move into a house where we could have a family and a dog or two. Bookishly Fabulous is a dreamer after my own heart :)
