I was eating dinner by myself because Paul was wrapped up in WoW. I really wanted to eat with chopsticks so I made the last packet of shimp ramen. I wanted to beef it up though, because I don't feel that noodles alone are very complete dinner so I added large cooked shrimp and last nights mixed veggies. I called it "ULTIMATE RAMEN!"
My Dollmore order was shipped from the group coordinator today, and the person doing Linnet's touch up picked her up today and my Souldoll order would have been dropped off but I was at work so I'm going to pick it up tomorrow during my lunch. I hope that by the end of next week Linnet is in one piece, with her new wig, eyes & outfit - I'm so excited! Now all I need is the boots I ordered from eBay though I still haven't heard from the seller :(
I'm expecting a few things this week - and missing others.
First, as I might have mentioned awhile ago - I joined a group order on the DoA forum that ordered from Dollmore. I bought a new wig (after taking measurements, I realize the first wig I bought from Luts was actually the wrong size) and also a new pair of eyes. I joined the order on the 7th under the stipulation the group of orders would not be closed & paid for until we reached $800 and qualified for free shipping. On the 7th we were only at $400. Three days later it was closed! We finished & cleared all payments on the 19th and we were expecting to have to wait at least two weeks before it getting to the group coordinator and then surprisingly yesterday it was delivered! So quick, I'm beyond relieved because I was depending on the wig for Scotland. I paid for shipping last night and the group coordinator is in the US so it shouldn't take too long to get to me. The only bummer is that I've dismantled my doll and sent her head off for a touch up on her face so I wont even be able to check it all out for awhile.
Second, after thinking about it for awhile I did end up ordering the outfit from Souldoll. I'm not regretting it in the least either, because when I went to the site while writing this post to get the URL to link to it - I saw that it was sold out! I really, really liked this outfit and knowing that I got it before it sold out has made me so happy. I just have so many ideas so far as outfits! I ordered it on Saturday morning and on Monday night I got a shipping confirmation that said I'd get it today! I'm not sure how - but I am. Of course, the fact of her body being completely dismantled takes away from the bit of joy - but only a bit :)
Third, today we're supposed to be getting our entire travel itinerary from MyguideBritain - the travel coordinators we worked with for our Scotland trip. I'm excited about this because it's supposed to have our plane tickets (they coordinated one flight for us - Edinburgh to Dublin) as well as I'm hoping full contact information for our B&Bs. All of the websites only give streets - which is all fine and dandy when you're planning but when you're trying to actually drive there it's something different. If they don't have complete addresses they're going to be getting a phone call from me, that's for sure.
As for what I'm not getting yet; my Softly She Walks order. They're stationed in Canada and their website says it can take up to a week to ship and up to three weeks for delivery after shipping (they're shipping the slowest & cheapest because shipping was free). I'd love to have these outfits before Scotland, but it's not imperative in the least.
Also, and I'm not surprised I'm not getting it this week, some boots I ordered from eBay. Still on my hunt for black boots (as the pair I bought last time were way too big), I was browsing the DoA boards and ran across a sales thread for red boots. The seller explained they wouldn't fit on her SD13 boy and would probably fit an SD10 girl well. My girl is SD10! Though I didn't need red boots - the boots looked familiar and I realized that they were off of the same eBay seller who I bought my initial boots from. I scurried over to the site and found they had black ones and that with shipping it'd be under $20. The inner foot length is supposed to be 7.5cm (my girl has a 6.9cm foot length) so I'm hoping they're going to fit. I'm still skeptical though, because my last boots were supposed to be 7.5cm as well and were in actuality 8.4cm. I figure that once I get these - if they don't fit - I'm sending them back. Last time, I resolved to just try and work with them but not this time.
I also wont be getting back Linnet's head this week - at least I don't anticipate to. The person I found to do the touch up on the face understands my time frame and is very willing to work on her as soon as she's received and get her back to me pronto. I figure it'll take three days to get to her - three days to work on her - three days to get back. So hopefully late next week. I'm upset about having to have her face touched up at all - but that's what I get for pissing off the person doing my body blush - she chipped the eyeliner when putting in the eye lashes and I wasn't about to send any part of Linnet back to her for repairs.
Anyhow - that was a long post :P
As I posted, I'm going to be reading the three remaining books in the Earthsea series (along with the first three) as part of my 50 in 365. Well I don't have the last three so I ordered them online from Amazon.com. I checked around first of course, but I'm a bit particular because I love trade paper* version over mass market**. Barnes & Noble doesn't always have the best deals and was going to charge me $14 for each book, I would have gotten free shipping, but they also were going to charge me tax - so in the end I would have paid $10 more for the order. No thank you.
Amazon.com always has the best deals when it comes to books, so much better over eBay. I hate eBay for books. Even if the price for the book is good (less than retail) they always charge $7.99+ for shipping because it's not individual sellers but actual stores. Plus, no one sells trade paper - it's all mass market.
So, as I've said. I <3 Amazon.com for books :)
*A trade paperback (TPB), sometimes referred to as a trade paper edition, is a paperback book in which the text pages are identical to the text pages in the hardcover edition. It is usually the same size as the hardcover edition. The only difference is the softbinding; and the quality of the paper is usually higher than that of a mass market paperback. Trade paperbacks are typically priced less than hardcover books and higher than mass market paperbacks. Virtually all "Advance Reader's Copies" are issued in trade paperback format.
**A mass market paperback (MMP or MMPB) is a small, usually non-illustrated, and inexpensive bookbinding format. They are commonly released after the hardback edition, and often sold in non-traditional bookselling locations such as airports, drug stores, and supermarkets, as well as in traditional bookstores. Many paperbacks, especially in the area of genre fiction, are first editions in paperback and never receive a hardcover printing. This is particularly true of early novels by new writers.
A few days ago I decided I needed to buy Byeol (still needs name...) a new pair of shoes (she's unable to stand on her own in the heels I bought) and a pair of jeans to finish off her bare minimum wardrobe until I can spoil her a bit (or learn to sew successfully.)
I found a seller on eBay who had a great price for some sneakers & boots I wanted to buy - so I emailed them about a shipping discount. Despite the fact that they said they'd contact me in 48 it was more like 72. Either way - they'll only give me a 10% discount so my wait was hardly worth it. I'm still going to order though because their prices are the best and the shoes are simple - not a gazillon zippers and straps.
The jeans have been a bit more difficult to find. They either looks too simple and of poor quality for the price they're asking or they're asking for entirely too much. I was telling Paul, I don't mind spending a lot of money on a good piece when it comes to clothing - but I've heard rumors that the Souldolls have big bums and I'm not about to spend $40+ on a pair of jeans that while they look great don't fit. I went hunting for someone to make me a pair and found someone on the DoA boards. It took them awhile by they finally contacted me back and they're available to make my jeans! I'm excited and I'm going to go home tonight and take the required measurements to get the job started. The price is also right, considering they'll be custom fitted. Here's an example, though this doll is a bit smaller than mine.
That's what I need. I need to find a program where people who can sleep at night after buying a $600 doll can ship her to me, and let me keep her for a bit in exchange for one of my drastically less expensive dolls. At the end of our time we'll just... switch back. No harm, no foul.
Truth be told, I think if I were to buy Hye I would love her - sure. But that love would fade. New dolls would come, new hobbies and interests would come and then I'll have an expensive doll who is no longer being enjoyed. What do I do then?
Coincidentally, I saw a Hye on eBay. Someone had selected a custom face-up and she had black hair - but she was just as pretty (though the photographer really sucked). If they weren't asking for the original price of the doll - I might have considered it. But they wanted $575 (starting bid) and I didn't even really like the face-up as it was.
How much I wish I knew someone who had a 60cm ball-jointed-doll who wanted to lend her to me for a bit... Maybe if I had a chance to play around with one and get a feel for it and take pictures of it - I'd realize how much I didn't want her.
Maybe.
As you guys may have noticed, I haven't been into Blythe much as of late. The one doll I was interested in, simply because she was a break from the norm (special skin blend!) is out of my price range at $290 (that includes shipping).
Anyhow, I've still checked into the This is Blythe forum and I saw this posted.
NRFB Parco $2000AU, Postage will be?
If anyone really wants a Never Removed From Box Parco I'd only be willing to let her go for 2k.
Then I went to eBay because I thought, that seems MUCH more than even an original, never removed from box, KENNER. I was right.
I can completely understand loving a doll, and all that. But it still amazes me that someone would even post their doll for sale if they had no real intention of wanting to sell her.

This auction if for a Original Vintage 1972 Kenner Blythe doll Mint in the Original box, original shrink wrap, original price tag.

In working condition when her cord is pulled her eyes change four different colours shown in the pictures.
The tie from around her waist has come untied from being stored and moved, but she has never been removed from the original wrap.
The original Simpson Sears price tag is still on the plastic wrap on the front of the box
Current Bid: $810
I revised my sales thread on TiB where I had a ton of Barbie Fashion Fever I regretted buying up for sale. Originally I decided to try out the whole, "here's a Flickr set" type of thread as those are getting more and more common - but I wasn't getting any bites. So I did the original posting of each item in the thread and I've sold five items in the last hour :) I just want to get these things our of my way - so please, please buy them!
In other seller news, I haven't yet sold my camera that's posted on eBay. The day before yesterday I got an email from an eBay member saying, "All of the other cameras like yours are selling for much less than your Buy It Now price [which is set at $200] and I was wondering if you'd accept $150 plus shipping for it?" I responded that I wasn't ready to end the auction yet - but I would get back with them if I changed my mind. I'm not silly enough to think that I'm going to get what I paid for it almost three years ago - but its working perfectly and the buyer is getting a ton of stuff too - so I feel I should hold out for some good bids. But then I thought, why didn't this person just place a bid at the $130 starting price? It's less than $200 and I'm sure that they have a great chance of winner. I'm going to think they are nice and were trying to give me what they felt was fair without going under my original request. Do you think I should accept it?
What's the best thing you ever bought off of Ebay or Craigslist?
Oh this is difficult to answer because I'm forced to buy a lot from eBay due to the fact that I like imports. Here's a list of some of the good stuff I've bought:
- These niffy doll shoes, which I don't think I would have been able to get for such a good price - even off of my dolly website.
- My Sooni DaL, Hitomi, who was out of stock every place else when I really wanted to buy her.
- The great and beautiful bento box :)
This is an update to an earlier post entitled Am I being too cautious? where I spoke about a doll sale.
In the end - the deal fell through. After I explained that I didn't want to send cash via EMS and that I didn't want to pay the $22 Western Union was charging - I suggested iKobo and the seller seemed to like the idea. The bummer was that it would cost $9 to send it and a minimum of $12 to ship it to the seller and it would arrive within two weeks. The seller asked if I'd pay the $9 and he'd pay the $12 - and I didn't say yes or no. Then, about ten minutes later, he emails me and asks if he could have another buyer of his pay ME via PayPal and I could combine that money with the money I owed him for the Tailor Gibson and send both amounts via iKobo and he would pay all the fees.
I emailed him and clarified with him that he'd be paying close to $4 for me to receive his other buyer's payment via PayPal, close to $20 for me to send it using iKobo and close to $12 for him to receive it - bringing our total in fees alone to $36. Then I asked if he was going to wait to receive the money in order to send the dolls and he said yes. So I wouldn't get her for a good three or four weeks. I absolutely HATE waiting for dolls to arrive over such a long period of time. I can handle a week - but anything more and I'm so antsy. But hey, I was getting the doll for what I could afford and that was all that was important.
In the end though, before I could agree to any of this, the seller backed out and said he was just going to sell to another buyer who didn't mind paying for his winning auctions on eBay. I'm over it and I'm glad it worked like this because my want of the doll likely would have out-weighed my better judgment and I probably would have been screwed over in some way.
I feel like posting today, but I don't really have much to post. I suppose I'll do the common "Update" post :)
I don't know how many people noticed, but I finally got my Blythe doll "My Best Friend". She had been held at the post office, I don't know how long, but she was. It was strange because I wasn't really expecting it to be there. I waited patiently in line and then told the old man (who was surprisingly happy & nice - usually he's so mean I want to complain) about how I never got a package. He asked my address, disappeared for a second, and then came back with a large box. At first, I thought he was just joking because I really didn't believe it. Anyhow, I went to pull out my driver's license to show him my address and asked him if he needed to know my phone number as well. He said, "Oh, we don't need anything. You're so happy it pretty obvious its yours". So good news, good news. The buyer for the nude doll was still interested and I'll be getting payment from her soon.
I also got my Kawaii swap items too! I got this nifty hard, spiral-bound notebook that had this panda on it. I guess the character/concept is called "Real Panda?" because everything about the character is about how they're not a real panda and how they have to draw on the black spot. The cover says "REAL PANDA? I don't have...Black spots. I'm not a PANDA. So... I draw black spot. 'I wanna be a Panda!' Inside it says "Black spot disappear when it rains" TOO CUTE! I felt bad though - it cost me about three dollars to ship my thick, padded envelope to her - but I noticed that it cost her over $12 just for postage to send the package to me. That means she likely spent more on the postage than the swap itself! All in all, I really enjoyed the swap and I hope to join another one soon.
Since I bought my Green Bag from Target, I've saved a total of 6 plastic bags. Its so convenient having it in my purse! I pulled it out everywhere :) I'm thinking of keeping a tally somewhere - I don't know where - so that I keep encouraging myself to be as helpful as I can. As I said, it may be hard to do much - but I'm trying. Next stop is replacing all our bathroom vanity lights with energy efficient bulbs.
Had my sister & brother-in-law over for dinner last night and I made Shake N' Bake! I know that to some it's so silly how excited I am - but the fact is that I'd never made it before and I didn't kill anyone or burn anything down. However, I did have to cook it twice as long because of the kind of pan I used. Live and learn though, right? I'm going to make it again soon - and try and perfect it.
Todays Wednesday & I'm happy the week is going by so quickly. I've dubbed today Wednesday Whuv (aka: love)
