This weekend I spent relaxing - a lot. Saturday morning we woke early and dressed for the Renaissance Faire! I was excited to go - I used to have so much fun but lost my interest when my friends there lost interest in me. So, it was nice to be going back - especially because Jane gave us her complimentary tickets so we really only had to pay for parking. We got there about ten and left earlier than I wanted - at about 1:30 or so. It was just TOO hot. I was so disappointed because everyone was telling me how cool the season had been, for once.
Anyhow - once we'd gotten home (stripped, showered, & sprawled open limbed on the floor in order to cool down) the day improved a lot. We finally watched "Children of Men" - a movie I'd been warned was not happy - but good, which I agree with. After that I basically just read the entire day which was exactly what I wanted. I'd been trying to make time to read The Host - such a good book so far - and finally I'd found it. By the end of the day I was a little more than half way through the book.
Sunday we woke leisurely and excitedly - we'd be getting our new bed! They called almost instantly to give us an hour warning and so I rushed around to strip the bed and clean the room as much as possible to give everyone room. Some wasted effort though because when they came they simply dropped the mattress in the living room and left. I had been hiding in the other room (forgot to mention - got a wicked sunburn while at faire on my neck and shoulders so I was bra-less and in a tub top - ergo the hiding) and so when Paul said they hadn't taken the old mattress I was confused. We called the customer service line pretty quick and the woman called the truck driver. It was a frustrating conversation because she was talking to the truck driver/delivery team - who barely spoke English by the way - and arguing with us. She said that the delivery team asked us if we needed our old mattress removed - but Paul says they didn't. She wouldn't take our word against theirs though - so on top of arguing with us we were also told we were wrong. Frustrating to say the least because in my opinion, no matter WHAT we said in confusion, we were the customer and we were told we'd have our old mattress removed and our new one placed for us. Neither of those things happened. I'm over it though - the mattress is nice :)
We went shopping in the afternoon and picked up some odd ends at Target and then went to the supermarket. I spent most of the day after that just reading and by the end of the night I got about a hundred pages away from finishing. I put the book down though because I was tired and I really don't like finishing books before bed. I'm regretting it now though because I left my book on the kitchen table! I got out of my car this morning at work and when I noticed I'd left it I had a moment straight from Planet of the Apes - fists held to the sky and screaming "NNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!" to the empty parking lot. I'm tempted to go home and get it on my lunch - but by the time I get it and come back most of my lunch will be over and I'll have no time to read it anyhow :( TONIGHT THOUGH! I'm finishing it tonight!
What makes the weekend even better is that despite relaxing a lot - I was still able to get chores done. We went grocery shopping, I washed clothes (including a load of Faire clothes), got the dishes done, Paul cleaned the guest room and did laundry as well. So productivity with relaxing is the best thing in my book. Best thing :)
I had a very good weekend. On Friday night Jane & I went and saw Pan's Labyrinth which was really good. I know that some out there were disappointed in what it was - but I loved it. It was beautiful (and I'm not just talking about the fantasy world portions) it had great dialogue and it was very moving - all of it. I felt inspired and very thoughtful afterwards which is a sign of a great movie. It made me want to write.
Saturday was very relaxing. Paul & I slept until noon - did some married stuff - then slept until four. Then we watched the first two discs of Battlestar Galactica Season One. That's a great show! I'm so glad I started getting it on Netflix. I'm typing a little off today though, while we were watching BSG I decided to mess with my nails (acrylic) and cut my left hand down to a typeable distance but never got around to my right. If you asked A. Dawn Wolf she'll tell you that my left hand is currently sporting blue polish while my right is still long and bare French tipped. It's okay though - they were looking pretty shotting anyhow because I got them done the weekend of our wedding and I was supposed to get them filled two weeks ago and never did. Anyhow - GREAT Saturday if you ask me.
Sunday we went to the first FOF meeting. No camping this year - another bummer. But, I'm going to be very diplomatic like and get the campground we used last year to reserve us a site through the whole season even though they don't take reservations. Had lunch with Dawn afterwards at this great Chinese food restaurant and got to talk for sometime which was very nice. When we were driving home though I was SO tired! I was struggling to keep my eyes open and that's because I was driving and Paul's not too keen with my clutch yet. I got my second wind about ten minutes from home and we decided to stop at the Target and pick up some stuff we've been needing. We got the stuff we went there for plus some under the bed storage tubs because we don't have any "official" dressers and I'm sick of our clothes being everywhere. We also picked up...
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS!!!!
Just that afternoon I was telling Dawn and a few others how bummed I was that we couldn't find it anywhere for Gamecube, only Wii. But then last night at Target I found it and we bought it. Not the best move, financially - but hey at least when we're living on the streets we can say we've seen the blessedness that is Zelda. We went home and played it for a bit - but I was tired so we decided to save some for later. I made Paul promise not to play it without me. I felt kind of foolish - but then when Paul said he understood - I didn't feel that foolish. See, when my brother and I used to play - we would only play it together (him usually playing - me brainstorming and occasionally reading from the players guide if we got stuck) and we couldn't play without each other. It was a tradition. Paul understood.
In other great weekend news, my sister went into labor Saturday night. She's been having contractions ever since, but only this morning are her contractions within "active labor" range meaning she's due to go to the hospital. I'm so excited - at the end of today I'm going to be an AUNT! Auntie M, that's what they're already calling me :)
So in conclusion - great weekend!
Yesterday I was pining over the BDR outfit so much and I finally just bought it. I felt better afterwards. I wonder sometimes if I have some sort of OCD when it comes to these kinds of things. Its almost as if, when I don't get what I've decided I want, my mind stands still. It happened when I decided I wanted my Sidekick. I realized I wanted it and then from that moment on it was almost a constant thought in my head. I basically decided to take the nearly $500 plunge ($300 for the phone, $175 in Verizon cancellation fees, +$35 in taxes and such...) in about 24 hours. Most people aren't that spontaneous and decisive. I wonder if it's a problem that I am. I take a little bit of comfort in the fact that I do my research before I buy usually. With my Sidekick I did a lot of research because I knew I would not only be buying a phone but also a new service provider and plan. But I'm very happy with my decision so I guess that's comforting as well.
As a note to Maura & Bookishly Fabulous, both of whom I've admitted to whole heartedly that I cannot cook, I cooked dinner last night :) Here's a picture of the finished product...
And on a positive note, it was eatable (not doused in salt as per usual) & Paul and I did not die nor spend hours whithering in pain on the bathroom floor as we endured food poisoning. Go me!
I was bored on my lunch so I watched a bit of Grey's Anatomy online. I love it that they have entire episodes. I watched part one of that two part episode but now I have to wait until tonight to see the rest. I kind of wish they had Veronica Mars online too - but there is a bit of lost joy when I have to watch them online. I'd much rather wait until they are released on DVD before trying to watch any. Tonight I'm going to work on a very serious endeavor - and apron. I made a promise to myself that I would independently make at least ONE part of my Faire costume (Jane and I do a tag team on the rest - we cut together and she sews) - and since I've been desiring an apron I thought that would be easiest. I figure the construction will be simple: One rectangle, folded three quarters of the way down OVER the top of the apron to create one long pocket across the bottom front and then I'll sew vertically down the one large pocket to create smaller ones to hold my bits and bobs. I'm determined so wish me luck.
Last night I was bored so I called up my friend Jane and asked if she wanted company until about nine o'clock - when Paul would be getting home. She said sure, so I popped over there. With the first Faire meeting this weekend, we're reminded of costume changes we wanted to make before the new season began. For me, I wanted a new chemise and two new skirts. My old chemise wasn't actually mine and my old skirts weren't actually mine either and they were causing me some discomfort. So last night she was working on sewing together my chemise we had cut out on Saturday night and I was working on cutting out her chemise. After cutting out the sleeves we realize that isn't going to be enough fabric for the front and back. So we decide to go down to Wal-Mart (where she originally bought the fabric) to see if we could get more. We get over there and find that they don't have anymore of the fabric and we resign to go home.
On our way out though, we see the toy section. I'll admit now - the two of us are suckers for the toy section. There is just something about the needlessness (at our age at least) and simplicity of what a toy actually represents. Anyhow, so we're walking up and down the aisles and I see this set of Bratz Fashion Heads Mix & Match clothes set. I remember hearing somewhere that the Blythe dolls I've become so interested in were the inspiration for these Bratz - so I thought maybe the clothes were fit my Blythe. So I picked up the clearance set figuring I'd take a gamble on $5. When I got it home I was disappointed to find out that my Blythe's body is thicker than that of Bratz. The pants wouldn't go up her hips, the shirts wouldn't connect and meet in the back where the velcro is. The only thing that slightly fit was the jean jacket - though it didn't close and I don't know if it fit because I had not put a shirt on underneath it.
Ah well, it was a gamble.
On a slightly related note, apparently these Bratz dolls (which I'm going to say now, I don't like at all) have this special one where you buy one doll where the head pops off so you can inter-change with other heads. To us, this sounded sadistic, frightening, and gruesome - so naturally Jane & I had to find them. We searched everywhere and then finally we found a head. We were both pacified and then instantly encouraged to find the bodies that went with them. Found them on the top shelve and it was a bit of a disappointment - mainly because the head was on the body and was lacking stitches and screws in the neck :)
Today I didn't do much at work because I was stuck troubleshooting ONE computer issue. That's how it is sometimes though in desktop support.
I did do two great things though. I started a new group for Renaissance Faires and also accomplished convincing my good friend Dawn do join Vox. She didn't before because she said she had too many blogs - which is a lot of my friend's excuses - but now she's here! Yay!
In other random news, after chugging an energy drink last night in the hopes of staying up after a long day, I came home and was bound and determined to clean out the closet in the guest room. When we moved into our apartment we were blessed with a huge extra closet so we stuff everything in there. Well now I'm sick of not knowing whats in there (and we have to store this crib for my mum & dad) so I cleaned it out! I feel so accomplished.
Watched Super Size me all the way through tonight - I feel fat.
