What are you saving up for?
Submitted by Star.
As an inspiring adult looking towards the future, I'm saving up for a great many things. First and foremost is our Scotland trip, second is a new car for Paul (I'm more saving for the down payment) and third is simply old bills.
On a more fun note (not that Scotland isn't fun) I'm also going to start saving for a male BJD - an Elfdoll Red. He's not going to have the red wig though, as that's not really my style. The clipped image below (with photographer's information) is what made me want an Elfdoll Red. Once you get past the red hair he's wonderful! Luckily - the place I ordered my last BJD from (and had such a great experince) Denver Dolls, will not be having him in stock until April so I have time to save and pay for him.
Who do you want to be caught under the mistletoe with this holiday season?

Okay - I hope this is pretty obvious for anyone in a relationship...
Today is Friday and I'm in a good mood. I had hoped that my camera might get here today - but I really don't see that happening as the order screen still says "new order" and I'm assuming that once it ships it will say "shipped" and actually have information underneath the tracking section. Worst comes to worst - I'll get it Tuesday. I had hoped that I might get it before the weekend because I'd really love to drive down to La Jolla and take some great macro shots (with my 12x optical zoom!!!) of the tide pools there. Last time I was there - in November for my sister's wedding - they had fish and teeny crabs and all sorts of excellent ocean life right at my fingertips! I'm so bad at being patient, I know it'll curse my children as well. I'm a strangely patient though. I can have a lot of patience if I feel that the "line" or process is moving at a reasonable pace - but if I'm just in a stand still (like my camera and all it's "new order" limbo) I'm just racked with impatience.
Paul & I had dinner with my mom last night, which was really, really nice :) I'm a terrible daughter and forgot to call her on her birthday (which was the 30th of August) - even though I didn't actually forget her birthday (I'm great with dates!) - and then felt so sheepish I kept putting off having to face the embarrassment of giving her a belated birthday gift & wishes. However, she said she had a great birthday and my father bought her this anchor of a diamond ring for their 33rd anniversary (31st of August) so my misgivings luckily didn't effect her overall celebrations.
On a frustrating note, I've been fighting with Best Buy - yet again - and I am seriously considering closing the credit account. First, they reject electronic payments through my bank so I have to use their stupid online bill pay. Then, they take forever to apply the payment. To top it off, they reject a purchase amount for less than my remaining available credit and that just pisses me off! The worst thing you can do to me as a customer is reject a purchase when there really is not cause. My business is what makes your business so why the hell are you making this so difficult?! I'm calling them today (actually on hold right now...) to fight it out with them because this is just ridiculous. Not to sound snobby or high & mighty - but I'm not some teenager off the street with a $10K a year income. I'm a good, paying customer who would be a better customer if they didn't make it so difficult.
On an uplifting end to this post, I recently joined a group that exercises after work with some personal trainers. The personal trainers have this "deal" going on where they pick the person that has improved the most over the month long set of twice-a-week sessions to receive a month of sessions for free. When I joined I wasn't really too concerned with that deal because I wanted to just take the new exercise program slow and steady in order not to get discouraged. So I worked out twice a week and I started adding more good food to my diet and I didn't really do much else even though I was supposed to do cardio work the other days of the week. I even ate out at fast food restaurants still - though not as frequently. So imagine my surprise to find out that I was the winner (for my time slot - out of two time slots)! I had lost seven pounds, 3.1% of my body fat and inches everywhere. I'm so encouraged by this that I'm going to take next month - my free month - more seriously. I'm going to try and work out everyday (with the personal trainers group twice a week and my own cardio the other days) and stick to my meal plan that I'm following. I just hope that I haven't already hit a plateau because I really need to keep going. I still weight 160+ and I'm no where near a size I would be happy with.
So yes. Its Friday.
Paul went dumpster diving for me this morning.
I have this key card on a retractable lanyard that I hook onto my waist band while I'm at work. In order not to forget it anywhere - I take it off and put it in my cup holder in my car as soon as I leave work - so it's there for the next morning of work. Well, last Friday I put it in this small, clear, disposable cup that was in my cup holder and eventually over the weekend we ended up throwing a bit of trash in that teeny cup. I hate trash in my car, so I had Paul throw away the cup for me once we got home (our parking spot is right next to the dumpster - very convenient! ) on Saturday night. It wasn't until this morning that I realized my blunder. I freaked out because that key card lets me in/out of our parking center, in/out of the building & in/out of my office (one of the only offices under lock and key) - so in essence I was screwed! Amazingly though, Paul was able to grab it out of the dumpster! I was so relieved and very much reminded as to why I love Paul and married him happily :)
I'm Bookishly Fabulous 's shadow today!

I had such a rotten night last night.
As I posted, I had some difficulties with my Blythe customization. But what I forgot to post about was the fact that I dripped hot glue on my arm...the same arm that I burnt back in November. I'm such a clutz.
Anyhow - so with that searing pain a faint throbbing memory I decided I was going to get dinner started. I had until around eight o'clock to get it completed because that's when America's Next Top Model started (judge all you want, it's a great show for me and my sister to watch together and I love it for that). I go into the kitchen and turn the grill on and go to unpack the thawed chicken and cover it with some BBQ sauce. It was then that I discovered that the chicken wasn't thawed - not even slightly thawed. I don't know how this happened since it had about six hours to defrost and it was in the eighties in our apartment yesterday - but whatever. So I run some hot water in the sick and fight with it for the next fifteen minutes until at least two of the pieces are at least 80% thawed and then I threw them on the grill. I go to grab the BBQ sauce which is in this huge jug with a big handle on it. I pick up the jug by the handle and go to shake it by lifting it over my shoulder and then back down. Well apparently Paul didn't close the jug all the way and I successfully painted our kitchen with BBQ sauce. I guess Paul's not a "shaker" - I am. Why you ask? I've just had to many bad experiences with stuff sinking to the bottom or floating to the top. Think of "pudding skin". Think of all the good stuff at the bottom of a V8 bottle. I'm just a shaker. I like to make sure everything is mixed.
So with the burn on my arm, the eye chips not coming out, the BBQ sauce on the walls and the chicken only 80% thawed - I was done for. Paul tells me it's not too late to cancel with my sister (who I might have forgotten to mention was coming over) and I said yes it is.
In the end, the chicken cooked. The BBQ sauce came off the walls. I got one out of four eye chips out. America's Next Top Model was good and most importantly I didn't let my bad night ruin my night with my sister.
I'm a bit frustrated right now.
First off, let me say that Paul hasn't had health insurance since he left working at Best Buy in September (I think) of 2005 - which I'll be the first to say is SO dangerous in the states - most especially in California where we love to sue over everything. So when we got married I was so excited to get him on my health insurance plan at work (at no cost too, yay) and was striving to get the necessary paperwork. My work tells me I need my marriage CERTIFICATE which I knew to be different from a marriage LICENSE. Now in order to get my certificate I had to have some information corrected on the license and that meant me going down to the County Recorders office (which I did yesterday). So I come in yesterday all proud that I finally got what they needed. I go to sign him up for medical, dental & vision and come to find out that I've "missed" the period to sign him up with my vision plan because I had 30 days after getting married to add him. I ask her, "I couldn't have gotten the paper work in 30 days even WITHOUT having to have it corrected - so how does that work?". She says that all I had to bring in was my marriage certificate and I explain that my marriage license took 4 to 6 weeks to be in the county recorder's system to even get a printed certificate - so how does that work? She says, "Oh, well the license would have been enough."
Oh would it?! You're telling me I've been sitting on this DAMN license for THREE months thinking that I needed the certificate in order to do this because that's what you TOLD me and you were WRONG?! What if Paul had gotten in an accident between those three months? What would we have done then? Would they have covered him despite the technicality? Who's to say. I'm just upset about the whole situation because I could have taken care of this three months ago - but now I have to wait until general enrollment in July to add him to my vision.
I'm trying to get over it. At least he has medical and dental right now.
Edit: The woman from my HR department just emailed me and said she called our vision provider and was able to get Paul on my insurance now - and making it retroactive from February 1st! So everything worked out in the end :)
