I'm sad to realize that I haven't answered the QotD or participated in one VoxHunt for ages. They just don't interest me anymore which is really the sad part. That used to be my favorite part! I find that I'm getting lazier and lazier with my blogging. I don't blog as much, they're boring and scatter-brained and I haven't even begun to post about Scotland. I find I go through these phases - I just hope I get out of this one quick.
The season finale of America's Next Top Model was good! I was so happy with it - the last few cycles I haven't been agreeing with the winner much so it was a nice change. I really like Anya (even though I liked Whitney more) and I wonder a bit if they chose Whitney because she was plus sized - just like I think they chose Jasline because she was Hispanic. Either way I'm happy :)
Next Wednesday I'm going to go get my hair done. I have no idea what I'm going to do and this morning I thought I had an idea, but then I asked around and now I'm not sure. I have healthy, fine, naturally blonde hair. I'm sick of it always being flat & limp as a noodle so I thought I'd do what I've never done before - get a perm. I wasn't thinking sausage curls or anything - more of a wave. One top of my flat hair though I'm also sick of the color - which I've mentioned in a previous post - so I'm thinking of dying it. I've heard that doing both is not a good idea though - and either way I'd have to wait at least two weeks after perming it before dyeing it. So do I perm it or dye it? If I dye it I don't want to go to a salon because I've had great results with having Jane do it in the past and that would ensure consistency when I want to touch-up the color. If I perm it then I don't get the discount that's offered by the salon I'm going to which is free cut with color. In essence: I have no idea what I'm doing but I have to decide by Tuesday.
7 QotDs and I don't want to answer any of them, what does that say about me? What does that say about the QotDs? I wonder why sometimes they change every day - other times it's only about once a week?
I'm considering just asking for payment on the dolls I have offers on, even though I was going to wait until this Friday. I think the prices are fair and I haven't been getting much more response since I placed the current offer dollar amount on the thread. I have however stopped getting low offers that are just laughable - which is good. Besides, I think it might take awhile for people to have their money to me and I'd like to ship on Saturday so this might be for the best.
Our cable has been acting up a lot. It all started when last Tuesday our cable (TV & internet - and ergo phone because we use Vonage) went out. That afternoon we saw someone walking around looking at the cable lines. We called up Time Warner and they sent someone out the next day and confirmed there was some kind of issue with our lines in regards to our new upstairs neighbor. Apparently, Verizon is in the happen of cutting previous cable lines when they provide service - classy - and they cut our line thinking it was our new neighbors. Ever since then we've been missing channels (we have no premium channels, but basic ones like TBS, TNT & Cartoon Network (NNNNOOOOO!!!!!) have been unavailable) and the cable keeps cutting in and out. I'm frustrated because tonight is ANTM and that means my sister and I are getting together and she doesn't have cable right now so if we can't watch it at my apartment we're out of luck :( I've called Time Warner and they're completely booked for today and so they can't even come out - even if I could take the time off. Which sucks. I'm just going to hope that, for tonight, it's just simply coming and going instead of just being gone.
In other news, I'm laboriously getting through The Other Boleyn Girl. Having taken a break has helped, however I'm still only on page 294 of 661. I've brought it to work today because I'm just trying to read it (I can't stand not finishing a book) and I don't need to get lost in it. My sister is probably going to be done with The Time Traveler's Wife tonight which means we're going to start reading The Thirteenth Tale together. After that I'm going to move onto Rebel Angels - but until all of that I'm working on The Other Boleyn Girl. I have high hopes for this month because if I'm able to finish The Other Boleyn Girl, The Thirteenth Tale, Rebel Angels and then also the 3rd book in the Gemma Doyle series I'll have read six books this month and that'll put me two closer to filling the gap I made in February. Wish me luck!
Yesterday was pretty rotten for me, aside from meeting with my sister and having dinner. But, this morning I woke refreshed and ready to start the day anew and that's the most important thing.
Last night my sister reminded me that I have about four months left until Scotland - which really brightened my night. The excitement has died down a bit since November since I've nailed down so many details. The only detail remaining is food - which I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out. We're on a very tight budget when it comes to food so all of the places mentioned in books and on websites are out of the question. I guess we're just going to have to make good use of grocery stores. Probably all for the best considering we'll be travel for entire days. The maps we're looking at make our routes seems desolate so I'm assuming there wont be many places for us to stop and eat.
Today's Thursday and we're getting paid, yay. We have to Christmas shop for one more person and then we're done! Our Christmas schedule is: Saturday with Paul's parents, Sunday with my sister & brother-in-law, Monday night with my parents, and Tuesday to ourselves :) I'm very excited this year and I hope that everything goes well so I'll be just as positive about next year.
My Luts order still hasn't shipped :( I'm guessing I have approximately...9-12 more days until I get Byeol and if the order was only technically placed on Monday (that was when they accepted my payment) and there is a 20 day period for the wig - I'm basically SOLed. She'll be naked for awhile after I get her and I'm very sad about it. I've been looking around online trying to find a quick - if albeit temporary - clothing solution but everyone is international and I know there's no way of getting something by the end of the month when shipped internationally.
Sorry to all my neighbors out there that my posts have been so...update-ish instead of meaningful :(
Today's been pretty uneventful - and yet its going by pretty fast which is nice.
Yesterday morning we put a second dose of the flea treatment on Ripley and placed her in the crate for the whole day (besides taking her out so she could go to the bathroom quickly). She was so miserable and I felt terrible for doing it - but at the same time I really want her fleas to go away and everyone was agreeing that the last dose I'd given her likely was rubbed off or something before it had time to work. I felt bad even for putting her back in the crate this morning so we could go to work - but it has to be done. Tonight I'm going to take her out and let her run around for a long time - and she'll stay out until we go to bed too - in order to make up for the awful confinement she felt yesterday.
Last night was the season finale of America's Next Top Model. I was glad because I was happy with Saleshia winning - but I much rather would have had Jenah win. I was telling Felipe Anuel how I was really frustrated and angry with the whole judging panel for how they were treating Jenah - she really never had a chance. No matter how much she tried everyone thought she was such a mean person when she wasn't in the least. She's someone I'd love to see in commercials and stuff - Jaslene makes me want to vomit. Every time she was on the show and every time they showed her commercials I let out a loud, "UGH!" because it was so irritating. A new cycle starts some time in February and I don't know how well the new judge is going to do - but I'm going to give it a try anyhow.
I placed my order yesterday with Denver Dolls :) My last installment will be on December 27th and I've requested 2 day shipping so I'm hoping she'll be here before the end of the year. She'll be my last expenditure for a very long time - even though I've been wanting Welcome Winter Blythe. I still have to pay for my other pre-order of PD2A from HLJ and that's my last commitment doll wise for awhile. There's a part of me that thinks that if I really enjoy my Souldoll I might sell some of my Blythes and keep only what I'm madly in love with. The bummer is that I'm madly in love with them all!
Tonight I'm going to watch Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix!
Small update on my post from Friday
I'm at square one with my laptop. I wiped it last Friday with the intention of reloading the XP & Ubuntu - this time loading the Gusty Gibbon version rather than the Feisty Fawn and then upgrading to Gutsy Gibbon. Well, that didn't work. I really should have done my research because if I had, I would have found out that my wireless card no longer has support on Ubuntu through Gutsy Gibbon. To my own defense though, my wireless card did work once I upgraded to Gutsy Gibbon - the support seems to be lacking in the kernel - so I was partly misinformed. Of course, I don't realize this until I've already loaded everything needed for Gutsy Gibbon. So, I wiped it again and went through the long process of loading Feisty Fawn with the intention of just upgrading again. Well, that didn't work. I don't know if its because I was half asleep from coming home late after a Halloween party - and I simply missed a step somewhere - but my wireless card wont work on my Feisty Fawn either. Ugh. So I've brought my laptop to work with me today with the intention of double-checking my work on the wireless card (I have to download NDiswrapper and install with specified code through the terminal in order to get my wireless working - it's unfortunately not native) and if I've done it all correctly and it still doesn't work - then I'm going to wipe again. I'll get it working, I just can't say when.
I ended up cleaning this weekend. Cleaning a lot. Friday night I stopped off at Target and picked up a real mop (I'm sorry - Swiffer Wet Jet is not a real mop) and I also happened to pick up some carpet spot cleaner and also Veronica Mars season three. We cleaned sporadically on Friday which ended up working best, and even though we didn't get it all done we did get enough. Saturday we cleaned some more once my sister and I watched a few episodes of Veronica Mars and we ended up cleaning the guest bedroom! It looks so nice now and we even hooked up the DVD player so Saturday afternoon we spent the day in there (Paul has his computer and I sat on the guest bed messing with my laptop and watching movies)! That made me feel accomplished enough that I stopped cleaning for awhile. There is still a lot to do: Spray down the patio from the dust storm that came through during the fires, vacuum and spot clean the carpet, and also dust. But that I can do over a few days so I'm not too stressed about it.
I didn't take any pictures, but that's okay. The weather is turning and soon the smoke will clear.
This afternoon is moving slow. So I've been messing with my laptop and have successfully screwed it up by deleting the superuser after creating a second user. Yay. I'm sure there's a way to fix it but a part of me doesn't want to hassle. So, I'm just wiping the drive (yes, again!) and I'm going to just reload the OS again. I'm tempted to reload only Ubuntu - but then stuff like this happens and I realize it's best to just play in Ubuntu and have XP as a backup for now.
I cleaned my desk at work throughly today. I didn't realize how much workspace I'd lost by the tide of crap I bring daily until I had to scribble a phone call I got on the side of a Styrofoam cup because I couldn't find my notepad let alone put it down anywhere even in order to write. I love cleaning, such a good feeling when its done.
Speaking of cleaning - I was thinking about taking today off in order to stay home and clean. I can't seem to stay on top of it all. I wish I could just have someone come in and clean the floors, the counters, the mirrors and dust once a week - I could keep all the rest under control - I promise! But alas, I don't think I'm nearly old or incapable enough to have a maid. I think what I need to start doing is putting aside a day. I used to do all the heavy cleaning on the Saturdays that Paul worked (when retail was our life...) but now that never happens.
While at EforAll (which I am going to post about - I PROMISE!) I abused Nintendo's download center for my DS Lite and I played a bit of Cooking Mama 2. When I first heard about this game it sounded very lame - but then I realized what a great time waster it was and ended up finding and buying the first Cooking Mama for cheap at our local Game Stop. So far I suck. I'm trying to conquer Miso Soup and while I get "greats" on the first two tasks I get only "goods" on the last three and so I'm only at "good" for that recipe. I figure it's one of those games where they'll only let you be so good to begin with and you have to work your way up. That makes my self-esteem higher at least :)
I saw such a good picture of a Hello Harvest today and now I really miss my Blythe dolls. I haven't spent much time with them at all. Its weird - I was hooked merely a month and a half ago and then nothing. The weather outside is horrid (95° with thick smoke everywhere) so I don't even think I could get pictures if I wanted to. I may just do what I can though because I'm really missing using my new camera AND my dolls.
This is a lot of random stuff so I'm going to end this post now. </end>
I'm in a voxing mood and I'm so happy about it! I feel like I've been really lacking on the vox posts lately - but then again I haven't been feeling well or anything so I guess I have some excuses. So here are some updates that I've randomly left out:
Odessa, my MRB Blythe doll, has arrived in New Jersey to be customized today. I sent her out last Saturday though they told me it wouldn't ship until Monday and would arrive on Friday - which it did. I'm so very excited about her being customized and I can't wait to get her back.
My pre-ordered Blythe doll, My Best Friend (MBF) has not yet arrived and the eBay seller I pre-ordered her from has not responded to my single email asking about shipping information. I emailed them close to the 20th of June asking when she'd be shipped out because I heard she'd be released on the 22nd and they emailed me back within minutes saying they weren't receiving the doll until the 30th and that she'd be shipped between the 30th of June and the 5th of July with a 10-14 day ship period. So on Monday, July 9th, I emailed them and asked them if I was supposed to get a shipping confirmation or something - and I haven't heard anything since. I've decided that if she doesn't get here by next Friday, July 20th, because that would be exactly 14 days after the 5th of July, I'm going to contact eBay. I pre-ordered her the DAY she was put on eBay by these sellers and I would really be unhappy if I found out I was shelved for other customers who got in after me.
I really like my DS and have been hooked on Trace Memory since Sunday night. I don't like how much dialogue there is in it - especially because it consists of a lot of repetition* - but I'm still really enjoying it. The puzzles are fun, if not frustrating, to solve and I've had to consult an online guide more than once. The most frustrating thing about it though is that I'm not necessarily missing the pieces of the puzzle but so much the order. You have to go to point A, find the clue, go to point B and realize you need the clue at point A before you can pick up the clue at point A and use it at point B. Frustrating. I'm really impressed by their use of the DS' features though - such as in one of the puzzles where you had to open and shut the DS to simulate pressing down - or blowing on the microphone to simulate blowing off dust - all very inventive.
My fish August survived my vacation.
I need to learn how to take out a row of knitting without taking it all out. I got so far the other day, 4 or 5 good even rows, and then I messed up and couldn't figure out how to only take out the row I mess up on. I'm going to look through the book and if that doesn't help I'll check out the website that Bookishly Fabulous and watch a few of the videos.
I watched Blade Runner: Director's Cut the other day - first time seeing the movie at all - and I felt like I understood it until this afternoon. I had lunch with my good friend Jose and told him I'd finally watched it, since he suggested it, and was surprised when it ended suddenly. Then he asked me if I understood it and I told him, I thought I did. What was I supposed to understand? Then he told me and I felt like an idiot. I usually always "get" movies and I feel silly now that I didn't get that one. I'm going to watch it again though and see if I could see the triggers he was talking about.
The house is still relatively clean - which makes me very happy - though we really need to buy that dresser because my clothes are making a bit mess. I went onto this site, Plummers Furniture, the other day because the commercial said, "Stylish & Affordable" and though it wasn't cheap in the least I did see this bedroom set for under a grand that came with the queen bed, wide dresser w/mirror, tall dresser, & two side table. That's a good amount of furniture for under a grand. I wish that I would have just bought a set rather than gotten bits and pieces here and there. Of course, we only had so much money when we were moving so... Maybe when we finally are able to afford a house (in Southern California? Sheesh, yeah right...) we can sell what furniture we have now and start over.
Well. I think that's enough of an update for now.
*Example: "What do you remember?", "Nothing.", "Nothing?", "Yes, nothing." There's also a lot of filler dialogue when the person you're talking to has nothing to say, example: "I remember!", "Ashley.", "I remember that I'm full of repetition!", "Ashley." How the hell is a name a good comeback or contribution to the conversation?
This weekend went pretty good.
I was still feeling pretty bad on Friday night - and even though I was denying that I was sick they still sent me home early - by an hour and a half. I was frustrated and disappointed because I felt like I was being force to go home because I was sick even though I didn't feel that bad. I also felt like no one else needed to be there any longer than I did and yet I was the one being sent home because I'm on the lowest rung on the ladder right now. But then Saturday came along and I showed up at one o'clock as scheduled but we couldn't even start until about five! So I had to make myself busy for four hours - which at first stank - but then I was able to catch up on a lot of little ends and odds at work and that really made me happy. When we finally did get started - we didn't get finished until about ten. So - all in all I got 12.5 hours of overtime which equates to 18.75 hours of pay. wOOt!
Sunday we went and saw The 300. We drove about 45 miles to go see it in an IMAX theater - and even though we called before we left for the 30 minute drive and confirmed that our showtime was not sold out - when we got there it was sold out for the next three showtimes so we would have had to wait until ten o'clock to see it - which we couldn't. So we just watched it on a regular screen - but it was still fantastic.
Visually it was perfect. My one beef was that there just wasn't enough of it! I wanted more of the visuals and more story and more of everything. The movie was only about an hour and forty-five minutes long though. Why? You guys are getting people in there after months - possibly a year for some - of waiting and all you can give us is an hour and forty-five minutes?! I felt robbed. But remember though, I was one of the few who sat back five minutes before Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring was over willing to watch more. I was outraged when it ended - even though I understood it all.
Random Fact for a Monday Morning:
- My car needs a bath already.
- It's going to be 94 degrees here today.
- A fire was started yesterday that's burned over 2000 acres of land by a man burning a stolen car to get rid of the evidence.
- I'm tired - my alarm didn't go off this morning - good thing I woke up!
- I've chewed my nails to nubs, ergo successfully convincing Paul that I need to get acrylics.
- I like a new song, Paolo Nutini "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" - but haven't decided if I want to buy it so I can't post it.
